Spooktacular Hike a Success

The ninth annual Spooktacular hike was held on Saturday evening October 9, 2010.

The weather was excellent and the attendance was estimated to be over 2,000 people.  Park Naturalist, Kathleen Harris, organizes this popular event every year.  Camp hosts, park personnel, members of the  Friends of Peninsula State Park and other volunteers helped set up, participate in, and put everything away when the hike was finished.

The event netted $2,500 which will be used to support Peninsula Nature Programs.

Horseshoe Island: Horseshoe Island, the only island that is part of Peninsula State Park, is picture perfect from Nicolet Bay. It lies about one mile north of the park's popular swimming beach. It is accessible only by boat. Engelmar Trail, a one-mile rustic path, meanders the circumference of the 38-acre island.
